Hull FC winger Tom Lineham has committed his future to the club by penning a new four-year contract extension with the Black and Whites.
The 21-year-old flyer bagged his first Super League hat-trick in the 52-0 win over Castleford Tigers on Friday and has celebrated with a new deal that will keep him at the KC Stadium until at least the end of the 2017 season.
A former soccer and rugby union convert, it caps a remarkable rise for the ex-York City Knights speedster who only joined the first team squad on a full-time basis midway through last season.
And Lineham, who is currently his side’s joint top try-scorer in Super League XVIII with four in three appearances, says he is delighted to pledge his future to the club.
Speaking to www.hullfc.com, he said, “I’m very pleased to be offered a new contract and I can just focus on improving as much as possible now.
“I’ve enjoyed my time here so far, it’s gone really quickly but Hull are an ambitious club with a very ambitious owner and good management and staff.
“The fans are very passionate too so it’s the place I wanted to stay and a club I wanted to commit my future to. I didn’t think twice about moving on, I just wanted to stay here and I’m looking forward to the next four years.”
Having joined the Knights from York Rugby Union Club, Lineham has quickly become a fans’ favourite at the Black and Whites since making his debut in a 32-18 victory over rivals Hull KR at Craven Park last July.
Originally based in West Yorkshire but now living in Hull, the promising young winger has previously finished third in Rugby League’s Fastest Man sprint and has gone on to make eight first team appearances for the club in the early stages of his career, scoring eight tries.
Hull FC head coach Peter Gentle is pleased to have tied down another exciting player for the foreseeable future.
He said, “There is no doubting Tom’s obvious talent and he has done tremendously to get to this point, mainly through his work ethic and application, which is second to none.
“He has a lot to learn and understand if he is to maximise his potential but we believe he can do that given time and that’s why we have offered him a long-term deal.
“He is powerful, very fast and very strong, whilst he’s also very good under the high ball too.
“Tom is just one of a handful of very exciting young players that we have at the club, particularly in our outside backs alongside the likes of Joe Arundel (21) and Ben Crooks (19).
“We have them all on long-term contracts and with continued hard work and development they have the opportunity to become a foundation of our side for years to come.”
