Warrington Wolves’ veteran full-back Brett Hodgson is poised to return to action in Saturday's Super League game at London Broncos.

The 35-year-old, the Exiles captain for next week's International Origin match against England, has missed the Wolves' last three games after minor knee surgery.

The goalkicking Australian has been named in coach Tony Smith's initial 19-man squad for the trip to Gillingham's Priestfield Stadium.

Smith said: "He is good. He has been working really hard.

"He was desperate to play this week and get back in the mix. Unless he has a setback between now and Saturday he will be fine.

"He has trained really well. We're delighted to have him back."

Hodgson is one of eight Warrington players named in the squads for next week's representative match, which is being played at the Wolves' Halliwell Jones Stadium.

He is joined in the Exiles camp by Michael and Joel Monaghan and Trent Waterhouse, while Chris Hill, Adrian Morley, Richie Myler and Ben Westwood are in the England set-up.

Smith admits the game could have negative implications for his side but, as a former England coach, is fully behind the concept.

He said: "We're pleased to support that game in the best way we can.

"Sometimes it might not be in our interests but we understand the big picture and the importance of the international game. We'll continue to do that.

"It is massively important for the World Cup. If we are going to stand any chance of competing at that level, we need to have those opportunities.

"It's great all the owners of the clubs support the Exiles games to allow their overseas players to play.

"They could say it is nothing to do with them and not allow it but it is great they see how a competitive game for England is important."

Smith added that centre Chris Bridge and forward Ben Harrison are close to returning after hamstring and abdominal injuries respectively.

He said: "With not having a game next week, I wouldn't be surprised if both of them were available around about that next game.

"They are getting very close but we are being extra cautious with both of them."
