Mariano makes Tigers switch

11th July 2013

Castleford Tigers have announced the signing of former Hull KR back rower Frankie Mariano from Super League neighbours Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

The 26-year-old will join the Tigers on a 12-month deal when his current contract with the Wildcats expires at the end of the season.

Mariano, who made the latest of his 46 appearances for Wakefield in their 24-14 win over Widnes Vikings on Monday, played under Castleford coach Daryl Powell earlier this season when he had a loan spell at Featherstone.

"It will be good to work with him again," Mariano said. "I feel comfortable talking to him and, having worked with him already, I don't class him as a new person so that was a big part of the move."

Powell said: "Frankie is a big and athletic back rower who can punch holes in opposition defences. He's also versatile with a strong ability to play in the centre equally effectively.

"His addition for next year brings size and experience to the squad and further enhances the competition for places in our forward pack."
