James Rule congratulates Denis Betts & the Widnes players

16th August 2013

Following Thursday night’s outstanding away victory over near-neighbours Warrington Wolves, a delighted Vikings CEO James Rule, commented:

“Last night was a special night in the evolution of the Widnes Vikings.

“To travel to The Halliwell Jones Stadium and face a side of the quality that Warrington Wolves possess, is always going to be a difficult challenge. To do that with so many players unavailable for selection through injury undoubtedly increases the size of that challenge. Likewise, to then lose Grant Gore through injury and Hep Cahill to a red card – one could’ve been forgiven for thinking that the challenge was insurmountable.

“However, the Widnes Vikings’ players and coaching staff dug deep and delivered a truly awe-inspiring performance to come away with the victory. The magnitude of that performance simply cannot be underestimated, and everybody connected with the Club will no doubt be filled with an enormous sense of pride at what they witnessed.

“This season we have drawn two games and lost fivegames by a score or less. We have been so close but sport is built on narrow margins and on those occasions we have sadly fallen just to the wrong side. However, last night the effort, the energy and the execution of our players and coaches was sensational and we secured the double.

“I want to thank everybody who has played a role in creating such a special evening in the Club’s history. From Steve O’Connor, whose vision and investment has brought the Club to where we are today, to the fans whose unwavering support is integral in our continued evolution. Our staff; the ‘Team behind the Team’ with their tireless work ethic, and to Denis, his coaches and medical staff, for delivering such an exceptional performance.

“We are all playing our part in moving Widnes Vikings forward and last night’s result will live forever in our memories.”
