Briers cleared for semi-final clash

17th September 2013

Warrington Wolves stand-off Lee Briers has been cleared to play in his side's play-off semi-final after submitting an early-guilty plea to a charge of punching.

The veteran former Wales international was charged by the Rugby Football League's match-review panel after striking out at Leeds Rhinos forward Carl Ablett during the Wolves' 40-20 qualifying play-off win over the Rhinos on Saturday.

Briers was charged with a minor grade A offence, which enabled him to avoid any suspension by making an early admission of guilt.

Warrington will be at home in next Thursday's first preliminary semi-final against one of the winners of this week's sudden-death play-offs.

Catalan Dragons hooker Eloi Pelissier also avoided a ban after admitting foul play during his side's 14-4 play-off defeat at Hull FC.
