Full-back Scott Grix celebrated his new contract by putting Huddersfield Giants on their way to an eighth win in nine First Utility Super League matches as they claimed a 38-22 victory over London Broncos.

Grix, who this week penned a two-year deal, dived over in the left corner after an early breakaway by Craig Kopczak.

It was the start of a seven-try romp for in-form Huddersfield – who had beaten Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors in their last two outings.

Former Bradford Bulls prop Kopczak burst down the middle from the halfway line on four minutes and passed outside to the onrushing Grix.

And any chance of an upset seemed improbable when Huddersfield ran in three more tries in 13 first-half minutes, starting when Brett Ferres was also put in by Kopczak in the 15th minute.

The former Bradford and Castleford Tigers forward dodged his way to the line while Danny Brough protested to Kopczak that he was better placed for an easier score.

Jermaine McGillvary scored the first of a brace on 21 minutes and then Brough and Ferres combined to put Joe Wardle in seven minutes later.

Ireland World Cup star Grix, though, was at fault when London pulled a try back two minutes before half-time.

He let James Cunningham get round him and the stand-off dashed away into the right corner for an impressive solo score, Josh Drinkwater's conversion leaving the score at 22-6 to the home side.

Buoyed by that score, London threatened a second-half revival thanks to Drinkwater.

McGillvary appeared to have confirmed the winless Broncos' 17th Super League defeat of the season with a try on 47 minutes to make it 26-6.

But Huddersfield then went to sleep and nearly let the visitors back in to the contest by conceding two tries in three minutes.

Drinkwater, chased by McGillvary, dashed nearly the full length of the field after intercepting a pass to score a stunning solo effort on 54 minutes.

Winger Denny Solomona then went over to make it 26-16 before the Giants hit back to snuff out the revival.

A quick double from Jodie Broughton and Wardle, his second of the afternoon, put the play-off contenders back in command.

The impressive Drinkwater had the last word, though, when he converted after Mason Caton-Brown went over in the left corner late on.

Danny Brough converted five of Huddersfield's seven tries to cement his place as Super League's top point-scorer. Brough now has 74 goals and 162 points to his name and has scored in 21 consecutive games.

The Scotland international also has a remarkable record against London, having now scored in 18 successive games against them for four different clubs.

Huddersfield too have had an incredible recent run against London, with this win being their 15th straight. The last time the Giants lost to the Broncos was a 24-0 defeat at Twickenham Stoop in 2008.
