Russell joins Toulouse

Toulouse Olympique have added powerful Scottish international winger Matthew Russell to their 2022 squad ahead of their  maiden season in Betfred Super League.

Russell begun his Super League career with Wigan Warriors and a short loan spell at Hull FC  before heading to Australia to link up with Gold Coast Titans. He returned to England with Warrington Wolves where he played a key role for the Wolves, spending four years at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

He then joined Toronto Wolfpack before signing with Leigh Centurions last year. Internationally, he has represented Scotland in both the 2013 and 2017 World Cup.

On signing with Toulouse, Russell said: “I'm super excited to start in Toulouse, I've heard a lot of good things about this club. I like the philosophy of the game instilled by Sylvain. I spoke with him a lot and it really made me want to join the club. My family and I can't wait to discover French culture."

Bernard Sarrazain, President of TO XIII, added: “ Matty's physical and explosive qualities complete our offensive range. I'm sure our fans will enjoy watching him play."
