Richie Myler tormented old club Salford City Reds and registered his 100th career try as Warrington Wolves returned to winning ways with a convincing display.

Tony Smith's men, beaten 48-24 in the corresponding fixture last term, came into this match on the back of successive defeats to Hull KR and St Helens.

However, the title-chasers were barely troubled tonight as they inflicted a blow to Alan Hunte's hopes of being appointed Salford coach on a full-time basis.

Former Reds half-back Myler crossed for one try in between playing a significant role in two others as the Wolves racked up 28 unanswered points inside 44 minutes.

Gareth Owen's 55-metre score gave Salford belated reason for cheer, but Myler then laid on another four-pointer for Brett Hodgson and followed Ryan Atkins' second try with a second of his own as Warrington finished with a flourish.

It did not take long for the visitors to stamp their authority on proceedings.

Atkins forced his way through a gap on the left for the game's opening score following a penalty for offside, with Hodgson tagging on the extras.

Warrington then made it 10 points in as many minutes after Jodie Broughton struggled to deal with Michael Monaghan's 40-20 attempt.

The Reds man was tackled in goal and, from the resulting drop out, Chris Riley latched on to a clever grubber kick from the influential Myler.

Andrew Dixon and Wayne Godwin were each stopped inches from the Wolves line as Salford enjoyed a brief spell of pressure.

Yet Riley soon extended his side's advantage with a fine individual score. After the ball had gone to ground during a Warrington attack, the winger showed excellent awareness in regathering before jinking inside off the left touchline and back out to the corner.

Hodgson's goal made it 16-0 and the veteran added a third conversion at the end of the first half following another try that came from Salford straying offside.

On this occasion, Myler was the finisher as he dropped his shoulder before surging past a flat-footed defence.

Things got worse for Salford immediately after the interval when Ben Currie charged down a kick from Marc Sneyd and raced downfield. He was tackled but, with Salford struggling to get back, Myler kicked to the right and provided Joel Monaghan with the simplest of finishes.

Owen raced more than half the length of the pitch for a breakaway try that at least got the hosts on the scoresheet.

Warrington quickly reasserted their dominance, though, as Myler found another gap and put Hodgson in under the posts, with the full-back adding a fifth successful kick from six.

Salford tried to come again and saw Adam Neal held up over the line, but there was little to concern the Wolves, and Atkins dummied over for his second score before Myler picked a lovely line to complete the rout.
